A walk down the sidewalk around 3 a.m. on a Saturday led to devastating results for a group of college students. The fatal accident unfolded as the pedestrians were walking on the sidewalk and were struck by a vehicle driven by an alleged drunk driver. The New York crash led to one death, injuries for three and an arrest on several charges for the man behind the wheel.
Despite the fact that cars are built safer each year, the roads appear to be more dangerous. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recently announced that car accident fatalities went up 7.7 percent last year compared to the previous year. Even more startling for people in New York is that traffic fatalities rose 9 percent in the mid-Atlantic states.
