A devastating accident occurred in New York on Thursday, May 18. According to city officials, a speeding car crashed into a crowd of pedestrians in Times Square. Tragically, the car crash injured at least 22 people and claimed one life.
An emergency management official reported that the speeding car was out of control. The vehicle drove up onto the sidewalk and continued for three blocks, striking numerous pedestrians along the way. It finally came to a stop when it crashed into a group of people and a light post.
One local hospital treated four patients in critical condition and two others in serious condition. Another hospital reported receiving 13 patients — 10 adults and three teenagers — with a number of serious injuries, including pelvic fractures, head injuries and internal bleeding. Tragically, an 18-year-old woman was killed in the devastating accident. Thankfully, the rest of the injured are expected to survive, according to reports.
The accused driver, who purportedly suffers from psychological issues, had already been arrested previously on two occasions for drunk driving. Preliminary tests indicate the driver was positive for the substance PCP, and criminal charges are pending. Apart from any criminal proceedings, however, are the numerous personal injury lawsuits the driver may find himself facing if the injured pedestrians choose to exercise that right. Additionally, the family of the deceased woman may decide to seek the counsel of an attorney in regard to a wrongful death claim. Likewise, anyone in New York who has been seriously injured in a car crash may benefit from the advice and guidance of a lawyer with experience in similar cases.
