Good Samaritans report extreme efforts after a tragic incident unfolded. They went to great lengths to help an elderly woman who was hit by a cab as she crossed a New York street. Sadly, the car accident took the life of the woman who was reported to be an accomplished jeweler.

The 77-year-old woman was walking a few blocks from her home. Around 8:30 a.m., the cab hit her. The driver was a 49-year-old man and had turned right when he hit the woman.

Witnesses banded together to rescue the woman who was trapped under the car. They pushed the car on its side and pulled her out from underneath. Responders rushed the woman to a hospital as she was in cardiac arrest, turning blue and also bleeding, according to the witnesses who helped her. She died despite efforts to save her. The cab driver, said to be in shock by those who were there, was at the scene and was charged with failure to exercise due care and failure to yield.

The loss of the woman is surely devastating for the family left behind. When a car accident takes a loved one in such a tragic manner, the family of the deceased may have to deal with financial losses, in addition to the emotional trauma that is saddled upon them. In New York, families of fatally injured victims may be able to pursue a wrongful death suit against a liable party and, in turn, may be able to garner monetary damages that offset the financial strain the accident created.
