Fatal accident on New York street takes pedestrian’s life

On Behalf of | Feb 17, 2016 | Wrongful Death

When a vehicle attempts to avoid a collision or possible collision, more harm than good may unfold for those involved. For one woman, walking along the streets of New York led to her becoming the victim of a fatal accident. A school bus struck and killed the 50-year-old pedestrian. The accident happened at 6:30 p.m. on a Friday night.

A school bus was headed east and maneuvered in a way as to avoid hitting another vehicle that cut the bus off. This resulted in the school bus jumping the curb. The 50-year-old woman was in the path of the bus as it jumped the curb.

Emergency medical personnel were called to the scene of the accident on the sidewalk. The woman who was hit was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of her injuries, yet she did not survive the crash. A collision investigation squad is looking into the accident and there has yet to be any arrests or indication of arrests in this fatal accident.

A fatal accident for a pedestrian walking down the streets of New York can wreak havoc on the family left behind. The family of a victim may also have to contend with much more than the emotional upheaval after a fatal crash. Those left behind may have to endure financial strain or complications as a result of the medical treatment, lost wages and funeral costs after a loved one unexpectedly passes. In such cases, if negligence or recklessness can be proved, a wrongful death suit may be appropriate.
