While a school bus stop should be a safe haven for school children, it can become the scene of tragedy when an accident occurs. Recently in New York, a school bus stop was the site of a car accident that led to injuries for a number of children. The accident occurred as a cab went up over the curb and struck a group of pedestrians.
The taxi cab hit the pedestrians near the bus stop on a recent Wednesday morning. In total, there were five people injured in the collision. Four of the five were children, and two of the victims suffered injuries that were reported to be critical in nature.
One of the children injured was an 8-year-old girl. She was trapped underneath a car, and a jack was used to get the taxi cab off the girl. She suffered broken legs and a broken pelvis, and her brother was also injured in the accident. The children’s mother, who is 33, also suffered injuries in the accident. The other injured parties were also children, ages 11 and 7.
The injuries sustained by the children in this car accident may result in extensive medical care and on-going treatment. If so, that can most certainly mean massive medical bills for the families affected. When New York families need to contend with medical bills and other expenses in the aftermath of a car accident, those families and victims may be able to find reprieve through filing personal injury suits. A successful suit can result in compensation that could alleviate that financial strain created by medical bills and other expenses.
