Walking along the roadway can be inherently dangerous, particularly at night. Both drivers and pedestrians must be alert for any potential problems and be aware of their surroundings at all time. If an accident occurs, a pedestrian can be critically injured or worse as he or she is no match for a moving vehicle. A man recently visiting family New York became the victim of fatal accident after he was hit by a passing car.
The man was walking along the road just before 7:30 p.m. on a Saturday night. There was no sidewalk so the man was confined to the shoulder of the road. As he walked, he was hit by a Chevrolet Trailblazer.
The man was treated at the scene. He was then transported to a nearby hospital where the man died as a result of the injuries he suffered. Police have stated they do not believe alcohol, drugs or speed played a role in the accident. It was also noted that this incident was the fifth accident between a vehicle and pedestrian in that area in just the past month. Four out of five of the pedestrians hit died as a result of the injuries.
The fatal accident is still being investigated. Even though criminal charges were not filed and may not be after the investigation, the family of the man who died after the New York crash may still have legal recourse to seek financial relief. If successful in a civil suit against the vehicle driver, the family of the victim may be awarded damages that could help alleviate the medical bills, funeral costs and other monetary losses incurred as a result of the accident.
