A multiple vehicle accident In New York claimed the life of at least one individual and seriously injured several others. Police are still investigating the car crash, which involved five vehicles and closed I-84 westbound for several hours on a recent Monday afternoon. According to reports, the accident appears to have been caused by an inattentive driver.
The official investigation indicates that a 64-year-old New York woman failed to slow her car per traffic flow when the vehicles in front of her did so. Her automobile struck the rear of the car in front of her, driven by an out-of-state woman. This caused a chain reaction that led to several more collisions with other vehicles, including a tractor-trailer.
Several of the drivers suffered only minor injuries in the accident, and the sole occupant of the tractor-trailer was unharmed. Unfortunately, not everyone involved was as lucky. Two of the passengers of the second vehicle suffered serious injuries in the collision, and the second driver herself suffered injuries deemed non-life-threatening. They were all taken for treatment to the same hospital. The third passenger of that vehicle, a 65-year-old male, was taken to a medical center for treatment, but sadly, he has since passed away as a result of the life-threatening injuries he suffered.
The woman whose apparent inattentiveness caused the fatal chain reaction may end up being held liable for the injury and loss of life she allegedly caused. Even if criminal charges are not forthcoming, the bereaved family of the man killed in the car crash may choose to speak with a New York attorney in regards to pursuing a wrongful death suit. Additionally, the seriously injured parties have the right to discuss their options for pursuing personal injury suits to possibly receive compensation for their medical expenses and pain and suffering.
