Wrong-way car accident takes multiple victims lives

On Behalf of | Aug 31, 2016 | Car Accidents

The aftershocks of a tragic crash are still being felt by victims who struggle to recover and the families of those who lost loved ones. The car accident that shocked New York seems to have been caused by a driver headed the wrong way. A sixth person has lost her life after being in critical condition in an area hospital.

The accident happened on a Sunday morning as a 26-year-old driver was headed east on the highway. For some reason, that driver crossed the median divider in the road. That vehicle hit a BMW in the opposite lane of traffic.

The wrong-way driver, his sister and his 10-year-old child were all killed in the crash. In the vehicle that was hit, an 81-year-old man and a 29-year-old man were both killed. The 71-year-old wife of the 81-year-old was taken to the hospital but died the next day. Four other people were injured in the accident.

After this car accident is thoroughly investigated, there may be proof of negligent or reckless behavior that led to the accident. Once that is determined, victims who died or were injured by the actions of the wrong-way driver may have legal options that could prove beneficial as they try to recover or as family members try to deal with the death of a loved one. A personal injury suit or a wrongful death suit filed in New York civil court could yield monetary damages that could assist those saddled with medical bills, funeral costs or other financial hardships related to the car accident.
