On Behalf of | Nov 2, 2015 | Car Accidents

What should have been a fun family night of trick or treating turned into chaos and tragedy for a family and others. A car accident during trick or treating took the life of three and left others injured. The deadly car accident occurred as a car jumped the curb and hit a group on the sidewalk in New York.

According to reports of those who were on the scene, a 52-year-old was driving and hit another car from behind. Then, his vehicle crossed into another lane and went onto the sidewalk, where a group was hit. The car was reported to have gone airborne before it came to a stop in a yard.

A 65-year-old grandfather who was out trick or treating with his granddaughter died after being struck. He was said to have been protecting others from getting hit. Despite his efforts, his 10-year-old granddaughter was amongst those who lost their lives in the accident. A 24-year-old woman also died in the accident. Four other people on the scene were injured.

The family who lost the grandfather and granddaughter in this tragic car accident may find they not only suffer unimaginable emotional losses but also financial losses. In New York and elsewhere, families of those who are lost due to the recklessness or negligence of another have legal options they may wish to pursue after they deal with the immediate aftermath of such a tragedy. In a New York civil court, a family may find pursuing a wrongful death suit to be a helpful way to cover any related expenses after the tragic loss of a loved one.
