Pedestrian killed in fatal accident on New York State Thruway

On Behalf of | Dec 5, 2016 | Wrongful Death

New York State Police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding a motor vehicle accident that occurred on Tuesday, Nov. 29 on the New York State Thruway where a pedestrian was struck and killed that morning. The fatal accident took place at 9:51 a.m. According to official reports so far, the crash occurred when a truck hit the victim on the off-ramp of Interstate 90 West in Salina.

Officials indicated that the truck accident took place on the Liverpool Exit 38 off-ramp, just north of Syracuse. The tractor-trailer crashed into the pedestrian, who died as a result of the impact. Both the Liverpool Fire Department and members of the American Medical Response team responded to the site of the accident, in addition to New York State Police troopers.

The Thruway Authority reported that, following the accident, the right lane of the roadway was blocked at the off-ramp, and traffic was moving slowly near the Liverpool exit. The cause of the fatal accident remains under investigation. A trooper at the scene states that, when available, more information will be released.

If fault on the part of the tractor-trailer driver is apparent, the surviving family of the victim may choose to file a wrongful death suit. Grieving family members often seek the counsel of an attorney with experience in similar cases when they have lost a loved one. Whether a fatal accident was caused by drugs or alcohol, or simply negligence on the part of the driver responsible, a successfully presented wrongful death claim frequently results in monetary compensation for surviving family members. The legal guidance and representation of an experienced personal injury attorney can prove invaluable in these often complicated legal proceedings.
