New York car crash results in multiple injuries

On Behalf of | Nov 22, 2016 | Car Accidents

A three-car accident in Flanders, New York on Sunday, Nov. 20 resulted in multiple injuries. A man who was involved in a secondary collision at the scene was charged with driving under the influence following the car crash. Flanders Northampton Volunteer Ambulance and Hampton Bays Volunteer Ambulance both responded and took injured victims for medical treatment. Also on site was the Flanders Fire Department.

The accident occurred at 7:03 p.m. when, according to police reports, a Nissan Sentra struck a Toyota Tacoma head-on in the east-bound lane. Both drivers were transported by ambulances to local hospitals and medical center for treatments of their resulting injuries. The extent of their injuries, though deemed non-life threatening, is not currently known. Neither has it yet been determined what fault, if any, lies with the drivers.

Also involved was a Ford Explorer Sport Trac, which ran into the Nissan after the initial collision. The 36-year-old driver of the Explorer initially refused medical treatment; it was soon discovered that he was under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested and charged with driving while impaired and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. His involvement in the crash is currently deemed a “secondary collision.”

Investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing. If fault or negligence is apparent on the part of any of the drivers, the victim or victims who were injured as a result may choose to file a personal injury suit. New York residents who have been injured in a car crash because of another’s negligence often hire an attorney to help them pursue claims for monetary compensation. Damages awarded in a personal injury lawsuit can be used toward medical expenses and other financial losses, including pain and suffering on the part of the victim.
