Driver charged in deadly New York car accident

On Behalf of | Aug 3, 2016 | Car Accidents

A driver has been arraigned for his role in a deadly accident. The driver faces several charges in the car accident that took the life of a New York teen. The victim was 18 years old.

The incident unfolded as the 18-year-old left a parking lot just before 10 p.m. on a Wednesday night. After she pulled onto the street, she was hit from behind. The teen was injured in the crash and taken to an area hospital for treatment of those injuries. She died as a result of the crash.

The driver involved has a previous DWI conviction and so he now faces a felony DWI charge in this car accident. He was also charged with driving without an ignition interlock device and additional charges may be pending. Bail was set for the man, and he was being guarded at the hospital by the sheriff’s department after being treated for injuries he sustained in the car accident.

The family who lost their daughter in this car accident may have legal rights to pursue that can go beyond the realm of the criminal court system. That family may be able to seek compensation in a New York civil suit if they so desire to file a wrongful death suit after the investigation in complete and if the driver is found to be liable in the incident. While the emotional toll of such an accident may be immeasurable, the financial toll may be calculated and compensation can help alleviate the additional burden the car accident may have placed on the woman’s surviving family members.
