Rear-end New York car crash takes woman’s life

On Behalf of | Jul 1, 2014 | Car Accidents

When fatal car accidents occur, families may struggle to understand exactly what happened that took the life of their loved one. It is up to authorities to gather the evidence together and determine exactly what occurred. A recent car crash here in New York has left at least one family with unanswered questions as they mourn their loss.

The accident occurred on a recent morning on the New York State Thruway. Authorities say that a 29-year-old man struck a vehicle from behind, causing it to impact a third vehicle. A woman in the second car died before she could be transported to receive medical care. A man in the same car was airlifted to a local hospital, where he currently remains in treatment for his injuries. No one else was injured in the crash.

The driver in the first vehicle is now facing charges of following too closely and traveling at an unsafe speed. Police have not mentioned the possibility of any contributing factors. They had to divert traffic while conducting an investigation, but no findings from that analysis have been released.

It has not been mentioned whether the man who was charged might face any civil action from the deceased woman’s family or from the injured man. If a lawsuit is pursued, any monetary restitution could be used for funeral costs, unpaid medical bills or other expenses that may have been incurred from the car crash. Here in New York, even if families may not understand why an accident happened, they can still see that those responsible are held financially accountable for any acts of negligence.
